NEWSROOM SYSTEMS

Another innovation from Audix Broadcast, the ADD3000 newsroom workstations are now installed in the BBC Prague Bureau. The system provides Digital Audio Mixing, External Source and Control (Outside Source), Digital Telephone Hybrid and Station Communications in a single desktop unit measuring 150mm by 150mm.

The increasing pressure for space on the work surface is eliminated by the use of the ADD3000 where a single unit will replace the more conventional 3 or 4 boxes to provide a simple integrated user interface.

Up to four workstations are connected to a central processing frame by a single CAT5 cable which carries audio and control signals in both directions.

This single cable carries 3 channels of high quality 24bit 48kHz linear digitised audio to and from the unit together with the appropriate control data.

The central 4U high processing frame (mounted in the equipment room) handles all the audio services. All external devices such as Digital Workstation Computers, Central Router Ports etc. may be connected to the processing frame through either Analogue, Digital or ATM audio ports.

Each workstation has seamless access to one of the two intergrated digital telephone hybrid units with the system automatically routing the incoming and return feeds to the appropriate hybrid.

In Prague the ADD3000 is linked to the ANTS networked PC-based Java software which is used for remote control of a shared ISDN codec. The software allows journalists to have full control of the Codec through a graphical interface and additionally provides access to a Visual Talkback system.

The workstations also have access to a stereo five stage equaliser which operates in the digital domain and may be assigned on a channel by channel basis.

While designed initially for the smaller newsrooms, the ADD3000 - like all the latest Audix Broadcast products - is compatible for use with ATM to provide a truly integrated audio networking environment. The worktop units may be clustered and connected to a local Audix ATM Gateway or Portal which will allow the processing frame to be mounted well away from the units, and allow units to be assigned to signal processing facilities on a "need to use" or "Hot Desking" basis.
