LIVE KNOBS FOR LIVE AUDIO
Visual cues and colour co-ordination are major aspects of users interfaces. A revolutionary new illuminated fader knob, the colour of which can be changed to reflect the function of the particular channel were shown at IBC Amsterdam. This innovative facility might seem quirky but it could simplify the operation of assignable consoles in live broadcast applications.
Audix Broadcast has been marketing its ADD series of digital audio mixers with routing and input assignment facilities and has now added as an option to all their range of assignable audio mixers dynamic coloured fader knobs. As standard colours available are green, red, blue, yellow and white, or any colour in the spectrum to specific customers needs.
Further facilities not only allow the colour to be chosen but also the knob's intensity. The knob colour intensity can be set low when on the fader backstop and bright when the fader is open; simple but efficient. As the knob intensity can be controlled it can be used for attracting attention, for example, in telephone interfaces, showing the line is ringing, visual cues from presenters, etc.
The illuminated knobs will be demonstrated as a feature of the ADD9016 digital assignable on-air audio mixer at SBES in Birmingham 14th - 15th November stand no: 32.
