Audix Broadcast Networks Capital Sites - Radio World Business Digest August 2004
Capital Radio Group installed an Audix Broadcast system to interconnet its 11 U.K. productions sites.
The London-based broadcast operation bought an Audix Broadcast broadband audio network that uses 12 combined ATM (AES47) network and audio processing units, a server and system management software suite and a GPS master clock system.
Capital Radio Group now uses the system with satellite staion Century Digital to provide a continuous, live-to-air link between production studios in Nottingham and the uplink site in London.
According to Richard Bettison, chief engineer of networks for Capital Radio, the system allows the networking of program material, particularly between Capital Gold stations.
"If an important band goes into our Newcastle station and does a good interview, the only way for that to be distributed at the moment is over ISDN, which would mean making 10 different calls," said Bettison. "With ATM, all someone needs to do is place it into the networked system and the other stations can just drag and drop it into their own computer screens."
